for fun, you may also use cmd or command prompt to do this...

run cmd
then type "tasklist" w/o the quotes.

this will be your list of programs that are running.. you may also see the PID of the program.

to KILL a running program you have two method..

KILLiNg by IMAGE NAME

kill /im svchost.exe


KILLInG by PID process ID
kill /pid 988

This trick is for XP Pro only and you must be an admin before you can execute the following

 1) Click the Start Button.
 2) Select Run From Start Menu.
 3) Type "gpedit.msc" without the qutes
4) Expand the "Administrative Templates" branch.
 5) Then Expand the "Network" branch.
 6) Highlight(Select by Single Click) "QoS Packet Scheduler"
 7) Double-click  " Limit Reservable Bandwidth "  (Available in Right Side Panel)
 8) Check(Select By Single Click on it)  " Enabled"
 9) Change  " Bandwidth limit % "  to "0 % "
 10) Click  " OK "  Button.
 11) Restart Your PC.
 12) Now Check Your Broadband Speed.

a visit with sality.AT

few weeks after an infection of sality.ag there goes a new variant called sality.at as detected by the kaspersky anti virus.. i wonede how did i get this virus? then a research on my computer was done.
adter disinfecting my pc against sality.ag, i downloaded yahoo messenger and install it. after installing there goes a pop up from malwarebytes and spybot that there is a new registry value.
now sality didn't came from the yahoo messenger i downloaded but it came from sality.ag that imbed itself on the hive of registry then drop something if your reboot your  computer..
 i thought my pc was virus free, but further experiments revealed that not all sality.ag traces were cleaned. after connecting to the net an update on sality.ag dropped and upgrade to saltity.at. it came to my mind that i have to format my pc but i stumbled upon this boot cd that contains antivirus.. the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, this boot cd runs while your operating system sleeps. its good i bumped on this site. now you don't have a problem if hte virus is hidden deep insde the registry. it takes only UBCD4Win to kill them coz your operating system is not running on the background, no rootkit will run and no hidden process is open, only UBCD...

i once deal with a pesky worm called brontok.. it took me one week to remove that worm out of my PC. and now after 6 years of virus free on my PC a new one struct me..
the WORM.SALITY virus.. this worm took my 7 year old PC to its knees.. it's characteristics differ from other virus i encounter.
1. the virus infect exe programs, it attached sometihing on your legitimate program..
2. Worm:Win32/Sality.AU also drops .LNK files, detected as Exploit:Win32/CplLnk.A, which automatically run the dropped virus.
3. you can't install antivirus if you are infected.

1. first of all this worm wont let you use reg edit, Task manager and hide your folder options. to acces taskmanager use the code.
  REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f


PLEASE turn OFF system restore before proceeding...
2. Download a file called sality remover and AVAST free antivirus.
     NOTE: before downloading /saving this on your computer, rename the file extension with .cmd. if your dont rename it then sality worm will infect it.. better download the file in a clean computer then rename its extension with .cmd.. 
3. after scanning with salite remover, reboot then install avast anti virus. re scan it with avast..
now if there are presistent remains, delete them manually.. you can see their address from anti virus report.
that's it... you're done...

To remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons in any type of document:

a) Perform instructions described under ‘Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons’. For your convenience, steps 1 to 3 are reported here.

b) Perform instructions described under ‘Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons (2)’. For your convenience, steps 4 and 5 are reported here.

c) And finally, do the same with conferencelink, docshortcut, internetshortcut and wshfile.

So, here is a summary of all actions:

1. Start regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

4. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\piffile
5. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.
